TA - IdleAire Installations

On the heels of TravelCenters of America’s partnership with IdleAire Technologies, TA announced March 28 that over the next 15 months, 50 more TA sites will be installed with idle-reducing technology.

Trucking fleets will reduce fuel costs with the continued rollout throughout TravelCenters’ network of full service travel facilities.  The environmentally friendly technology offers a quiet,

clean and cost effective alternative to extended engine idling.

The system allows drivers to access electrical shore power, individual central heating and air conditioning, and a range of communications and entertainment services in the cab of their truck, without idling the  engine.

“As in industry leader in

serving the needs of professional drivers, TravelCenters is deeply committed to improving the quality of the environment.

By offering this alternative to idling at travel centers, we not only improve the overall air quality, but enhance drivers’ in-cab quality of life with heating and cooling, access to phone services, Internet access, and entertainment options.  Moreover, it

reduces diesel fuel consumption and emissions into the atmosphere and helps our fleet and independent drivers reduce their own fuel costs.”-Peter Greene, Senior Vice President of Development , TravelCenters of America

No More Re-Tagging: Gov. Riley Signs HB154 Into Law

Governor Riley flanked by more than a dozen Officers and Board members of the Alabama Trucking Association, signed the bill at a ceremony held at ATA's headquarters in Montgomery. The bill becomes effective October 1, 2006.

ATA Chairman of the Board of Directors Bill Watson thanked the Governor and praised the ATA leadership for their support of the bill during the grueling Legislative process. HB154 calls for a $60 permanent trailer tag fee (non-transferable). Currently, trailer tags are provided at a cost of $20 per annum for the life of the trailer. For trailers with a life cycle of 10 years, truckers would realize a savings of $140.

Unlike surrounding states, Alabama had no provision for a permanent trailer tag. Instead, owners of tractor trailer combinations are required to retag trailers annually. Since trailers are constantly in transit, physically retagging them is extremely difficult and labor intensive.
